The starting pitcher on this year’s Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers softball team (35-8 overall) helped herself many times at the plate this season. Incoming junior Abbie Hlas led the Raccoon River Conference with 68 total hits and 26 doubles. Hlas finished the season with 34 runs batted in, ranking her seventh in the conference; She was one of three Tigers batters in the top 10 of runs plated this summer. Hlas nearly posted a 2:1 walk to strikeout ratio, forcing 23 walks and striking out only 12 times. Hlas topped the entire state of Iowa high school softball in innings pitched with 285.2. She was one of only seven pitchers with more than 200 innings thrown and had 60 more thrown than Columbus Catholic, Waterloo junior Kayla Sproul. Her efforts landed her multiple postseason awards including to the Class 4A All-State Team, the Raccoon River Conference first team selection, and a Class 4A All-District West team member. Hlas and the ADM Tigers softball team finished as the runner-up of the Class 4A State softball tournament, ending the summer with a record of 35-8 overall. Hlas is among a large contingent of Tiger softball players projected to return to the squad next summer.
