The starting catcher and pitcher on this year’s Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers softball team were among the top female athletes in Iowa this summer. The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union released their list of this year’s All-State Softball teams and ADM senior Ashley Tennant, and sophomore Abbie Hlas were among the 11 players selected to the Class 4A All-State squad. Tennant closed her high school softball career as the home run queen of Class 4A, sending 15 pitches over the fence this summer. Tennant played a significant role in ADM’s semifinal win versus the Newton Cardinals. She broke a 6-6 tie with a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Tennant recorded the final out of the seventh inning as Cardinal junior Mackenzie Brown was thrown out at third. On yesterday’s Around the Bases program, ADM head softball coach Rick Dillinger complimented Tennant for leading by example. “She led by example by willingly changing positions before the season started to help the team the most,” Dillinger said, “She led by example by the encouragement she gave her teammates. We couldn’t have asked for more out of her.”

Hlas recorded four hits in three games in Fort Dodge, plating three runs in the state quarterfinal against Dallas Center-Grimes. She also pitched all 21 innings for ADM at the state tournament. Tennant and Hlas received other postseason awards recently including selections to the All-Raccoon River Conference first team softball squad and were also named to the Class 4A All-District West squad. The 2018 ADM Tiger softball season ended with a 35-8 overall record, a 16-win improvement from last summer. Tennant is the only player graduating from the Tigers softball program.
