A Nebraska man was found dead near Redfield Sunday afternoon after apparently crashing his motorcycle.

According the to Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 3:23 p.m. a call came in about a motorcycle wreck at the intersection of Old Highway 6 and Bear Creek Road between Redfield and Dexter. Deputies located a motorcycle with Nebraska plates in a cornfield to the northwest of the intersection. They also located the body of 29-year-old Austin Welke, who appeared to have been dead for several days. Welke had been staying in Redfield on a work assignment, and friends of his reported that they had not seen or heard from him since Friday, July 20th.

No foul play is expected, but the Sheriff’s Office is investigating the circumstances of the wreck. An autopsy has been scheduled with the State Medical Examiner’s Office. The Sheriff’s Office is being assisted in the investigation by the Iowa State Patrol, Dallas County Emergency Medical Services, and Redfield First Responders.
