Guthrie County Public Health saw perfect weather conditions for its first annual Health Fair Saturday at Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center High School.
Several booths lined the track next to the football field with information and plenty of free giveaways. The organizations represented included: Guthrie County Public Health, Guthrie County Environmental Health, New Opportunities Inc., Lakeshore Family Dentistry, and Allen Family Chiropractic.
There was also food, kids activities, and the dunk tank. The tank was graciously staffed by Guthrie County Supervisor Clifford Carney, Guthrie County Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Herbert, and Guthrie County Public Health Director Jotham Arber.
Arber was pleased with the turnout and hopes to make this an annual event.
“I’m glad people are coming out and grabbing some informational material on what we have to offer as far as health goes. I’m very happy with the way it’s turned out. What we would like to do is move it from city to city. Our goal is to take the healthcare in Guthrie County to the people rather than have them come to healthcare. So this year it’s in Guthrie Center. We’re hoping to next year do it in Panora and then the year after we’ll do it in Stuart and then just kind of keep moving around.”
The event also served as an opportunity for new or expecting parents to receive free car seat checks.
