The Heart of Iowa Activities Conference softball all-conference selections have been announced and five Greene County High School players received some type of recognition. No Rams were on the first all-conference team, but three were second team selections, and two more players were named to the honorable mention list.
Senior Samantha Hardaway and juniors Jenna Beyers and Megan Carey were the second team selections. Freshmen Danielle Hoyle and Lily Muir were named honorable mention selections.
Hardaway was named to the second team as a utility player. She was the primary pitcher for the 8-19 Rams, who went 6-8 in conference games. Hardaway was 6-16 on the season with an earned run average of 4.78. He had 61 strikeouts recorded and 39 walks issued in 112-2/3 innings pitched. At the plate, the right hander was 24 for 83 for a batting average of .289 with 11 runs batted in.
Beyers played mainly shortstop, but did pitched 48 innings. She was named to the second team infield, batting at a .333 clip with two home runs, 1 triple, three doubles, 14 runs scored, and 17 batted in. She walked 11 times and went 24 of 72 at the plate with just nine strikeouts. Her on base percentage was .429.
Carey had a team best .360 average at the plate and a .415 on base percentage. The left-handed slap hitter went 31 of 86 from the lead off spot with 17 runs scored, three doubles, one triple, and six batte in. She was 15 of 16 stealing bases, and Carey fanned just 11 times all season.
Hoyle was the first baseman and at 6′ 3″, made a tall target. She hit .275 with 16 RBI, one homer, and seven doubles. She went 22 of 80 at the plate as a freshman after missing all of her eighth grade season due to injury.
Muir was a left-handed slap hitter that normally batted ninth. She hit .304 with 21 hits in 69 at bats, and 13 runs scored. He normally played right field when she wasn’t the designated player.
