The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn softball team came up just short last week in their bid for the school’s first State Softball Championship.

The Tigers won their first two games in the Class 4A tournament to advance to the championship game this past Friday, where they fell to Des Moines Hoover 8-3. It was ADM’s first trip to the State Softball Tournament since 2008, and their third second place finish in school history. The Tigers were also the runners-up in 1994 and 1995. The team entered the State Tournament by winning their regional final, defeating Norwalk 8-1. Their regular season performance earned them the top seed at State and a first round date with their in-county rival, eighth-seeded Dallas Center-Grimes. The Tigers defeated the Fillies 9-1 and advanced to play Newton, the fourth seed. The semifinal game also went in ADM’s favor, as they beat the Cardinals 9-8.

Unfortunately their run to the championship came up short against the seventh-seeded Hoover squad. The Tigers finished the season with a 35-8 overall record, and next year they’ll have all but one player returning from this year’s team. Each ADM game in the State Tournament was broadcast live on Raccoon Valley Radio, and you can listen to each of them on demand at RaccoonValleyRadio.com.
