One inning was the difference as the Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers lost the Class 4A State Championship Friday evening in Fort Dodge, falling 8-3 to the Des Moines Hoover Huskies. Seven of the Huskies eight runs came during the top of the fifth inning with 11 total batters coming to the plate. ADM held a 2-0 lead enter the fifth inning. Hoover and ADM each scored a single run in the seventh inning. ADM’s Sierra Wyant scored a run and drove in another to lead ADM’s offensive attack. Abbie Hlas’s stellar sophomore season ends taking the loss in the circle. She threw all seven innings, allowing eight earned runs on eight hits, walking two and striking out five. The loss closed ADM’s season at 35-8 overall, an 16 win improvement from last season. ADM finishes second in the state softball tournament for the third time in school history and the first since back to back runner-up results in 1994 & 1995 Class 2A tournament. Ashley Tennant is the lone player graduating off this year’s ADM softball squad.
