The new head coach of the Panorama boys golf program isn’t pushy when it comes to having his student-athletes put in work during the summer time. The Raccoon Valley Radio Network had David Van Ahn as a guest on Monday’s Guthrie County PM Sports Page to multiple topics during the offseason. Van Ahn says he’s seen junior Dylan Douglass and sophomore Kolby Shackelford on the Lake Panorama National Golf Course playing golf over the summer but as far as structured practice, he’s not for it during this time of year. “The kids need to be kids, it’s summertime, and we do have a lake, so that draws some activity, ” Van Ahn said, “I ask them to play as much golf as they can play. It isn’t anything structured; I want them to go out, relax, and have fun (playing golf).”

The Raccoon Valley Radio Network reported Tuesday that Shackelford has played in six Junior Iowa PGA Tour events this summer, winning three total tournaments. His latest victory came a week ago today at the 36-hole Des Moines Junior event at the Willow Creek-Red Golf Course in West Des Moines. Shackelford bested the 27 person field by three strokes, winning the tournament with a one over 143.
