Nine unanswered runs powered the No. 1 seeded Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers softball team to a state quarterfinal victory Tuesday over the eighth-seeded Dallas Center-Grimes Fillies in Fort Dodge, 9-1. The Raccoon Valley Radio Network broadcasted ADM’s first state tournament appearance in a decade on True Country K 107.9, raccoonvalleyradio.com, and the KKRF mobile app. Dallas Center-Grimes grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the third innings; Riley Hall got hit by a pitch to lead off the third and came around to score on an RBI fielders choice from Maria Hendricks. ADM responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third. After a scoreless fourth of the Fillies, the Tigers jumped on DCG for six runs in the bottom half of the innings. ADM added another insurance run in the fifth inning. ADM head softball coach Rick Dillinger told Raccoon Valley Radio Tuesday night that he’s happy the team fought through the quarterfinal round of the state tournament. “The toughest game at the state tournament is always the first one, in my opinion,” Dillinger said, “You got to find a way to get through it and get used to whats going on. I think we did ok with that.”

Sophomore Abbie Hlas went two-for-four at the plate and drove in three runs offensively. She also won her 34th game in the circle, throwing all seven innings, allowing one earned run on three hits, walking two and striking out six. Freshman Aniston Smith and sophomore Morgan Meyer scored two runs apiece for ADM, while freshman Brooke Hickey plated two runs in the victory. The win advances ADM into the semifinal round today against the Newton Cardinals. Newton defeated Cedar Rapids-Xavier, 1-0, on a walk-off solo home run by junior Emily Valtman.
