A sign that summer is here to stay is when sweet corn makes its first appearance at the local farmers market. That’s what happened last week at the Greene County Farmers Market.
It was the first appearance of the year for Deal’s Orchard and they brought their first batch of sweet corn to the farmers market. As patrons make their way to the farmers market tomorrow, not only can they find sweet corn, but also other locally grown produce, protein, baked goods and other locally made items. Plus, the Central Christian Church will be serving a fundraising meal at the market and there will be free musical entertainment provided by Stu Ryan O’Brien.
While you’re at the market, you can also check out the Register’s Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) Jefferson booth. They have opportunities for people to sign up to be housing hosts as well as volunteers. Plus you can purchase t-shirts featuring the official Jefferson RAGBRAI “Highway to Bells” logo and theme.
The Greene County Farmers Market is held every Tuesday from 4 to 6:30pm on the east side of the Greene County Courthouse through September 25th.
