The Greene County High School baseball careers of seven seniors ended on Friday night in Winterset when the Rams lost to Glenwood’s Rams, 17-6, in five innings by the 10 run rule in the opening round of Class 3A District 16 play. Coach John Hupp’s Rams finished his first season at the helm with 14 wins and 12 losses. Greene County went through a stretch of nine wins in 10 games, but dropped the last four of the season.

Seniors on the team were Wade Adcock, Tom Gannon, Isaac Ireland, Jordan Patterson, Kyle Peters, Garrett Swain, and Ben Wilkins. Those seven also were part of the 2017 Rams, who went 14-13 under then head coach Mark Sawhill. The back-to-back winning seasons are the first in the six seasons playing as Greene County, and the first in 10 years for the program.

Adcock, Gannon, Patterson, and Wilkins, were every day starters, and the quartet combined for more than 10 seasons of starting experience.

Key players eligible to return next season are current juniors Austin Delp and Bryce Hoyle, along with present day sophomores Nick Breon, Carter Morton, Brent Riley, and Tyler Teeples. Junior Clay Smith saw some outfield duty on the varsity level, and that group, along with several other younger players will likely be in the mix for playing time next season.
