Thursday night, Greenfield Chamber Main Street and Adair County ISU Extension and Outreach informally kicked off this year’s Adair County Fair with the latest Summer Social.
The evening began with a meal provided by the extension office, along with Adair County Pork Producers and the Adair County Cattlemen’s Association. Entertainment followed the meal. The two acts, a preview of the Share the Fun Contest next Saturday, were a clogging duet and a vocal duet singing “This is Me” from “The Greatest Showman.”
At the end of the evening, the Adair County Fair Queen candidates were introduced. Current Queen Maggie Maas thanked those present for their support and shared some of her experiences throughout the past year. The four candidates for 2018’s Fair Queen include: Hailey Miller, Julia Eshelman, Madison Suhr, and Ellen Clay. Miller and Clay will be attending college this fall at Northwest Missouri State and Des Moines Area Community College respectively. While Eshelman and Suhr will be seniors at Nodaway Valley and Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center High School respectively.
All four candidates answered questions about what they would put in a time capsule to be opened 100 years later and why they wished to be the Adair County Fair Queen. The items they would place in the capsule included: a CD, newspaper, pictures of family members, and a toy tractor. All the candidates mentioned being a role model as a main reason to be the next Fair Queen. The next queen will be crowned on Wednesday, immediately following the 4-H Hall of Fame and Senior Recognition at the Gazebo on the grounds in Greenfield.
The Adair County Fair is July 18-22.
