It’s district tournament time for Class 3A Iowa high school baseball programs, including the Greene County Rams. They play the Glenwood Rams at 5 p.m. in Winterset in the opening round of District 13 action. The game will be broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com with coverage starting at 4:30 p.m.
Both teams have found winning tough to come by lately. Coach John Hupp’s Greene County team is 14-11 and lost its last three games, scoring a total of two runs and being shut out twice. Glenwood is 10-19 and has lost six of its last eight and they scored two or fewer runs 12 times this season.
The two teams have nearly identical team batting averages with Glenwood at .279 and Greene County .277. Glenwood scores an average of right at five runs per game and Greene County is just below that at 4.84 runs per contest.
Greene County has an edge in team earned run average at 2.46 with Glenwood at 4.77. Expect Coach Hupp to throw Ben Wilkins today against Glenwood. The right hander has a 5-3 record with a sparkling 1.24 ERA. Greene County scored a total of zero runs in the three losses on the senior’s record.
The Glenwood/Greene County winner returns to Winterset Monday to play either Winterset or Creston in the District 16 title game at 7 p.m.
