A legendary Cyclone wrestler and Hawkeye coach will make his way to the Mary J. Barnett Memorial Library in Guthrie Center Tuesday. Dan Gable will make an appearance as part of the Smithsonian exhibit at the library from 5-8pm.
The 1972 Olympic Gold Medalist will be there for a book signing, meet and greet opportunity, and presentation. Gable is the author of three books, including “Coaching Wrestling Successfully,” “A Wrestling Life,” and “A Wrestling Life 2.” Gable was a champion wrestler at Iowa State University, and longtime head coach at the University of Iowa from 1976-1997. His teams notched a record of 355-21-5. Of his players, 45 were national champions and eight became Olympic medalists.
The exhibit will be at the library until Sunday, August 5th. It is open during normal library hours Monday-Thursday, 9am-4pm Friday and Saturday, and Sunday from 1-4pm. Admission to the exhibit is free and open to the public.
