Greene County Extension is offering a program for those helping to take care of a loved one.
The Powerful Tools for Caregivers program will be held for six-weeks on Tuesdays from July 17th through August 21st, from 1:30 to 3pm at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Parish Center in Jefferson. Extension Human Science Specialist Dr. David Brown will be leading the program. Brown talks about what participants should get from the program.
“Basically their whole life is focused on caregiving. And what happens a lot of times with caregivers they actually-the person that’s the care receivers-the caregiver dies first, because of the level of stress and everything like that that they are experiencing. We want them to be able to not only survive caregiving, but thrive as a caregiver as well. So they can actually do a much better job as a caregiver to the person that they are taking care of.”
Participants will learn how to: reduce stress, improve self confidence as caregivers, improve overall life balances between self and caregiving, communicating feelings and locate helpful resources.
The cost for the program is $10 and the registration deadline is tomorrow. Call the Extension office at 386-2138 or stop by to sign up.
