After a combined 20 walks and 5 hit batters, Perry outlasted Winterset 17-11 in the Raccoon River Conference finale Wednesday night at Progressive Field. Perry scored eight runs and sent twelve batters to the plate in a pivotal fifth inning erasing a 10-5 deficit. Perry put the game away in the sixth scoring four more insurance runs. The game was a typical final game battle just 48 hours away from the start of districts as both teams wanted to preserve their top pitchers. Every single Bluejay in the lineup scored at least one run with Kaleb Olejniczak and Gavin Boyer scoring three runs each. Aaron Lockwood finished with three RBI’s while Kato Dougan, Avery Meister, Olejniczak and Austin Carpenter added two RBI’s each. Carpenter laid down two perfect squeeze bunts in both the fifth and sixth innings.
Carpenter picked up the win in relief after starter Aaron Lockwood was chased from the game following seven walks in four innings. Carpenter allowed three runs off four hits. He improves to 4-5 on the season.
Perry honored three seniors prior to the game with Lockwood, Boyer and Carpenter all recognized along with their parents.
Perry closes out the Raccoon River Conference with a third place finish going an impressive 8-5. The Jays finish the regular season with an overall mark of 9-11. Perry will travel to Webster City Friday night for the district opener.
