Greene County Supervisors 7_9The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.

During open forum, Assistant County Attorney Thomas Laehn addressed the Board about possibly hiring a part-time assistant county attorney. He and County Attorney Nic Martino had a conversation about hiring a part-time assistant due to the workload and needing someone in the county attorney’s office everyday of the year. Martino is retiring at the end of the year and with a new county attorney to take his place starting next year, Martino suggested hiring an individual in November to be trained by January so the new county attorney isn’t having to both train and be the county attorney as the same time. The Board didn’t take action on the topic following the discussion.

The Board also mentioned that Greene County Emergency Medical Services Co-Founder Dennis Morlan decided to renew his contract with the County for another year to continue to provide services and for insurance purposes.

It was also mentioned that Back Pocket Brewery withdrew their appeal application to serve alcohol at a rural location in the County when the Register’s Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) comes through on July 23rd. It was mentioned that the company found another location at the county line in Carroll County.

The Board then approved the County Sheriff’s quarterly report of fees for April through June of $55,844, the County Auditor’s quarterly passport report of fees for April through June of $1,820 and the County Recorder’s report of fees for June of $40,904.  The Board also approved the 2019 fiscal year salaries and wages schedule.

Additionally the Board approved transferring $52,161 from local option sales and services tax (LOSST) funds to secondary roads for pavement work in Dana, a $30,000 transfer from the general fund to conservation reserve for a lautreen project at Spring Lake Park, and annual transfers of $5,000 from LOSST and $8,500 from the general fund both to the Raccoon River Valley Trail.
