The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has released the names of the subject and officer involved in the recent Panora shooting that resulted in a fatality.
According to a press release, DCI identified the subject as 26-year-old Joshua B. Reed of New Virginia. An autopsy of Reed’s body was conducted Tuesday by the Office of the State Medical Examiner in Ankeny. The cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds and the manner of death was ruled a homicide.
The Panora Police Officer involved in the shooting was Officer Rock Armstrong. Officer Armstrong has been an officer for 17 years and he is on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
At approximately 7:19pm Sunday, July 1st, the Guthrie County Dispatch Center received a 911 call of a report of Reed threatening people with a knife in an apartment complex at 502 West Market Street.
Upon arriving at the address, law enforcement located Reed in the apartment hallway. Reed proceeded to confront law enforcement with a knife. Law enforcement personnel ordered Reed to drop the knife several times but Reed refused to comply. Officer Armstrong engaged and fired his weapon, striking Reed. He was given medical aid but later died from his injuries.
