With the cancellation Thursday in Lytton vs. South Central Calhoun (Lake City) due to wet grounds, all that remains on the Greene County high school baseball regular season are two games, and both are against Heart of Iowa Activities Conference leader North Polk. The first meeting between the Rams and Comets is tonight in Jefferson at Allensworth Field on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. Coverage begins around 7 p.m. with first pitch set for 7:30 p.m.
NP is leading the HOIAC with a 10-2 record and Coach Dave Middleton’s team is 18-7 overall. John Hupp’s Rams are 14-9 on the season and 7-5 in league play with wins in nine of the last 11 games Greene County has played. The Comets have a slight lead over Saydel (Des Moines) in the conference standings. The Eagles are 8-3 and one of their losses is to Greene County. Gilbert is 8-5, the Rams 7-5 and Roland-Story (Story City) 7-6 in the conference, so these two games will be deciding quite a bit. Nevada is 5-8 in league play with South Hamilton (Jewell) 3-9 and PCM (Monroe) 3-11.
The regular season finale for the Rams is in Alleman vs. NP on Monday, July 9. Greene County opens Class 3A District 16 baseball on Friday, July 13 in Winterset at 5 p.m. vs. Glenwood.
