Humane Society of Perry

During the month of June, the Humane Society of Perry gave the public an opportunity to name their adoption price on all cats located in their shelter. With several cats still looking for their forever home, the promotion will continue through at least the end of July.

Humane Society President Breanna Morman is hopeful that continuing the promotion will lead to more adoptions, as the shelter had a large influx of cats and kittens in the last month. “We have taken in several litters of kittens, and that’s at least 4-5 kittens per litter. We also took in three mother cats that each had a litter of kittens. I would say roughly 15 of these cats are ready to be adopted, and we’re on overload with kittens, just waiting for them to be of the right age and size to be vetted and ready to go.”

The Humane Society of Perry is no longer sheltering any new animals, as Morman says they will be disbanding, largely due to the uncertainty surrounding the current shelter facility and how that affects their ability to care for all the stray animals. However, they will be operational until homes are found for all the cats and dogs currently in their care. Morman adds, the Humane Society is still looking for volunteers and foster homes to help care for the remaining animals. For more information, call 515-465-3413. The cattery is located between 2nd and McColl streets in downtown Perry.
