If you’ve driven on Highway 6 east of Adel recently, you may have noticed big things going on at the construction site for the new Dallas County Law Enforcement Center.
The big news is the walls are starting to go up, but there’s just as much work going on underground. Norm Reisetter, Construction Superintendent with the Samuels Group, says Neuman Brothers and U.S. Erectors are making good progress above ground on the concrete and metal work, respectively, while L.A. Fulton and Sons have been working diligently on the plumbing and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems below ground. In spite of the recent inclement weather, the facility is still on schedule to be competed in late summer of 2019.
On the financial side of the project, the Board of Supervisors recently approved the fifth pay application from the Samuels Group. The application included payments to seven contractors, as well as a rebate from McAninch Corporation. Jerry Purdy of Design Alliance said the rebate had to do with a recent change order from McAninch, and resulted in savings of $261.25 on the utilities package. The total amount paid in the application was $823,122.94. Additionally, Purdy said there is currently around $900,000 in the contingency log, which tracks the funds that can be used to cover unforeseen expenses throughout construction.
