Greene County will be trying to get back on the winning track tonight when they play baseball in Lytton vs. South Central Calhoun. Coach John Hupp’s Rams had Tuesday and Wednesday off after starting the week with a 2-0 non-conference loss on the road to the Ogden Bulldogs (20-5). The Rams are 14-9 while the Titans, members of the Twin Lakes Conference, are 11-10.
Greene County had just five baserunners against Ogden, and none of them advanced past first base. Gilbert is the only other team to shut out the Rams this season and the Tigers did it twice during Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play by identical 6-0 scores.
Pitching has been a plus for the Rams all season with seniors Ben Wilkins and Wade Adcock, juniors Austin Delp and Bryce Hoyle, and sophomore Brent Riley, leading the pitching staff. The Rams have a combine team earned run average of less than 2.60 runs per game.
SCC has a 4.11 team ERA and is led by Kyler Steinborn, who is 6-1 with an ERA of 0.94. Steinborn pitched all seven innings on Tuesday night in the Titans’ 11-3 victory over Coon Rapids-Bayard.
