When the 2018 high school softball season ended Tuesday night for the Greene County Rams, so did the careers of the three seniors on the team. Faith Davis, Samantha Hardaway, and Laurin Lyons led a relatively young group of players. Head coach Tom Kennedy told Raccoon Valley Radio after Tuesday’s 8-0 Class 3A Region 3 loss in Roland to Roland-Story that the seniors will be missed. “We certainly thank these girls for all the time and effort they’ve put into the program. Samantha was asked to move from catcher to be our primary pitcher this season and she did a great job, exceeding our expectations. Because of that move, Faith was asked to move behind the plate in a more prominent role and she that very well. Laurin played second base and was a part of our State Tournament teams when she was younger and made many contributions to the program. These are all really good kids and they’ll be missed.”
The Rams finished at 8-19 and the wins are the fewest in the six years playing as Greene County. Most of the leading hitters and two-thirds of the position players are eligible to return. The coach said some younger players, including pitchers, may be asked to contribute on the varsity level next season.
