Will the late season surge by the Greene County High School baseball team continue? Coach John Hupp’s Rams have won nine of the last 10 games and have clinched a winning record with 14 wins and eight losses. The last two wins were Heart of Iowa Activities Conference victories in Jewell on Friday night, 3-2, over South Hamilton, and a make up contest Saturday morning in Jefferson with PCM (Monroe) by a 6-4 final. In both games the Rams trailed, but came from behind to win.
The schedule tightens up with the last four games between today and July 9 against three teams with a combined record of 46-21. The Rams go east to Ogden (17-4) tonight for a non-conference contest around 7:30 p.m. on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.Thursday, the Rams meet South Central Calhoun (10-10), followed by the Senior Night game at Allensworth Field in Jefferson vs. HOIAC leader North Polk (Alleman) (17-6) on Friday night on KG98 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. The Rams and Comets play a make up game on July 9 in Alleman to end the regular season for Greene County.
During the last 10 games, no opponent has scored more than five runs, and that’s only happened once in a 5-4 loss to Roland Story on June 26 in the second game of a doubleheader. The first eight wins in the current streak saw opponents score two runs or less until Saturday, but only two of PCM’s runs were earned.
