The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has confirmed that an officer involved shooting in Panora Sunday evening resulted in a fatality.
In an official press release, DCI states that at approximately 7:19pm the Guthrie County Dispatch Center received a 911 call in reference to a report of a male subject with a knife threatening people in an apartment complex at 502 West Market Street.
Upon arriving at the address, law enforcement located a male subject in the apartment hallway. The subject confronted law enforcement with a knife. Law enforcement personnel ordered the subject to drop the knife several times but the male subject refused to drop the knife. An officer with the Panora Police Department engaged the subject and fired his weapon, striking the subject. The subject was given medical aid but later died from his injuries.
The body has been transported to the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner in Ankeny, where an autopsy will be conducted. The officer involved in the incident has been placed on paid administrative leave until the completion of the investigation.
The Crime Scene Team form the DCI Criminalistics Laboratory, Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office, and the Iowa State Patrol are all assisting the Panora Police Department in the ongoing investigation. The name of the subject has not been released at this time.
