The recent onslaught of severe thunderstorms and flooding in central Iowa has led to Governor Kim Reynolds issuing a disaster proclamation for four counties, including Dallas.
The proclamation allows for state resources to be utilized by citizens of the counties affected by offering grants through the Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program. Residents can apply for up to $5,000 to go towards home or car repairs, replacement of clothing or food, and temporary housing expenses, as long as they meet the required income restrictions. Additionally, anyone facing disaster-related hardship, injury, or adverse condition is eligible for the Disaster Case Management program, which provides guidance, advice, and referrals.
The disaster proclamation was issued Monday, and the four counties included are Dallas, Boone, Polk, and Jasper. Anyone wanting to take advantage of the Assistant Grant Program has 45 days from the date of the proclamation to make a claim. Those interested in Disaster Case Management have 180 days to request aid. Residents are also encouraged to report any damage to the Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management Department.
