The Perry Public Library’s “Discover Space” Teen Summer Reading Program has officially been running since the beginning of May, but now that school is out the activities are getting bigger and more frequent.

Assistant Library Director Misty VonBehren is in charge of the Teen Summer Reading Program, and she says every Monday throughout the summer they will have something going on at 2:30 p.m. Activities include space-themed crafts, an escape room, a murder mystery, and space games. Participants will also receive treats as rewards for reading, and VonBehren has additional challenges and prizes in store as well. “They can read, they can come to programs, they can find an alien in the library, and all sorts of fun things! So it’s a great opportunity for them to do that. And part of the ‘Discover Space’ that we’re doing: we’re going to have weekly missions, so they’re going to have to explore one of the different kiosks through the ‘Discover Space’ exhibit. If they succeed in their mission, their name goes into a drawing to win a couple free movie pass tickets.”

VonBehren adds, the Teen Summer Reading Program is completely free, and was made possible through donations from the Friends of the Perry Library, as well as a $1,000 grant from the Dollar General Foundation. She also reminds people that Friday showings of the “Star Wars” series will continue through the end of July.
