acgcAt the most recent Guthrie Center School Board meeting, Superintendent Steve Smith’s resignation for June 30th, 2019 was accepted. Though he will enter his final year in Guthrie Center schools on July 1st, he is far from completed with his goals for the district.

One of Smith’s year-long projects will be to institute the district’s safety plan, as required by the State of Iowa. Smith details the process in forming that plan. “That’s actually due a year from now. Next June 30th of 2019. So that will be due to be submitted to the Department of Education. In the meantime, there are a number of entities that are willing and will be very supportive in giving us the help that we need to, I think, establish and write an acceptable plan for not only the Department of Education, but also for our communities and for our school.”

As for Smith’s eventual replacement, both boards will look to name a search firm in August or September. To hear more from Smith on topics at Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center, listen to today’s Let’s Talk Guthrie County program.
