
Excessive rainfall has certainly plagued the month of June all across Iowa.
According to a report from the United States Department of Agriculture, last week there was an average of 2.1 suitable days for fieldwork for farmers. Rainfall also meant about a 25-percent of surplus topsoil moisture level and 20-percent surplus of subsoil moisture level, according to the report. It also pointed out that about 81-percent of corn was rated good to excellent condition and about 79-percent of soybeans were good to excellent.
According to the National Weather Service, as of Wednesday morning, Perry has seen 0.79-inches of rainfall this week and Guthrie Center has seen 1.6-inches of precipitation. There was no information available for Jefferson. The National Weather Service reports as of June 27th, for the month, Perry has recorded 9.7-inches of rainfall, which is well above the average for June of 4.59-inches. The highest amount recorded for a single day was on June 19th with 2.3-inches of rainfall. As for Guthrie Center, the National Weather Service reports 7.67-inches of rainfall has fallen in June, and the average for the month is 4.47-inches. The highest amount was recorded on June 11th with 1.84-inches. Again, no information was available for Jefferson.
