Coach John Hupp’s Greene County High School baseball team won for the seventh time in its last eight games when the Rams needed just five innings to win 11-1 by the 10-run rule Wednesday night at Allensworth Field in a make up game vs. Nevada. Greene County evened its Heart of Iowa Activities Conference record at 5-5, while improving to 12-8 overall. The Cubs fell to 12-10 on the season and 4-7 in conference games.
Senior pitcher Ben Wilkins improved to 5-1 with the complete game victory. He gave up two hits, hit two batters with pitches, walked five, and struck four batters out. Wilkins led the way at the plate with two doubles, a single, and two runs batted in. Garrett Swain came off the bench to single twice following a leg injury to Jordan Patterson. Wade Adcock drove in two runs with a single,and Tyler Teeples had a base hit and RBI. Tom Gannon and Carter Morton also singled, and Nick Breon drove in a run.
The Rams scored a run in the second, then Nevada tied the game in the top of the third. Greene County took the lead for good with four runs in their half of inning number three. A six run fifth ended the contest early.
It’s a day off today for the Rams, who played three games on Tuesday. Greene County travels to Jewell to meet South Hamilton on Friday night, then is back at Allensworth Field Saturday morning for a 10 a.m. make up game with PCM (Monroe).
