The Greene County Chamber and Tourism Annual Golf Outing has been delayed from the scheduled date of this Friday.
Chamber Interim Director Michael Reese says while plans are underway for this year’s golf outing, there’s going to be a twist.
“We are collaborating with (the) Shahan family with Avril, who has leukemia, going back to the chemo shirts that have an opening for the ports for the kids. It’s just a wonderful, wonderful charity that they’re trying to raise money for to get these shirts for kids. Not only for Blank Children’s Hospital down in Des Moines but also for the hospital in Iowa City.”
Reese adds that Avril’s mother Tabatha also wants to raise funds to purchase a “port doll” that teaches kids how to use the shirts and administer the treatments. He says she would like to purchase one doll for Blank and Iowa City Children’s hospitals.
“I have no problem putting on the brakes for our annual golf outing to make it a little bit bigger and better and to make it more of a fundraiser. So we can pull together as a community and help raise funds.”
Reese says a date for the golf outing will be announced soon.
