A fifth-inning fielding error proved costly in the latest setback for the Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers baseball team Tuesday night. The Raccoon Valley Radio Network was in Adel last night for the Tigers’ second Raccoon River Conference contest of the season against the Carroll Tigers. A routine ground ball through the legs of ADM junior Logan Crannell at first base helped two unearned runs score in the top of the fifth, helping Carroll to a 3-2 victory over ADM. ADM plated two runs in the bottom of the first inning and scattered three hits over the final six innings. After the game, ADM head baseball coach Jason Book said the team couldn’t catch a break at the plate. “We were hitting the ball fairly well (but) we were just hitting it right at them,” Book said, “We couldn’t get the balls to fall, and we couldn’t get a break to go our way.”

ADM spoiled the first career varsity start of sophomore Chase Anderson. Anderson threw three scoreless innings, allowing two hits, walking two and striking out six. The Tigers held a 2-0 lead over Carroll when Anderson exited after the third inning. The setback drops ADM’s overall record to 7-14 and 1-10 inside the Raccoon River Conference. The Tigers are off today before heading to Indianola Thursday for a nonconference game versus the state-ranked Indians.
