The Adel City Council convened Monday evening in regular session.
The first item on the agenda dealt with the Highway 169 widening project. The Council agreed to enter into an engineering services contract with McClure Engineering for around $700,000, to keep the project moving. City Clerk Jackie Steele says in the coming weeks the City and McClure will have additional meetings with the Iowa Department of Transportation to request additional money for the project and go over details. They hope to start reviewing bids in March of 2019.
Next, the Council discussed the procedures for filling a vacant seat. City Attorney Kristine Stone presented a questionnaire that will be given to each applicant, which was based off surveys other cities have used. Interested individuals have until July 3rd to submit applications. If there’s more than four applicants, the personnel committee will convene and narrow their choices down to two prior to the July 10th meeting.
Other items approved included: updating the City’s fee schedule, which will cause utility bills to increase; awarding a contract to Thorpe Water for rural water connections; awarding a geotechnical analysis contract to Chosen Valley Testing for the east annex sewer project; and a pay request for the storm sewer improvement project. The meeting concluded with a closed session to discuss the purchase of real estate.
