On July 9th, Adel native Nile Kinnick would have celebrated his 100th birthday. To honor the famous University of Iowa football star, the Adel Partners Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a birthday party for Kinnick on Saturday, July 7th.
The party will kick off at 11 a.m. at the Adel Pavillion and Stage on the corner of 10th Street and Main. Chamber President Marc Riley says there will be an assortment of activities for all ages, including a visit by a certain mascot. “Herky’s going to be there, some representatives from Fry Fest are going to be there as well. They are working to provide as many University of Iowa resources to Adel for representatives of Nile Kinnick. And you know, it’s going to be a wonderful event, there will be birthday cake there. So come out and celebrate his birthday with us!”
Additionally, Tom Lidd who wrote the book “Nile” will be on hand to sell and sign books, and hold a discussion on the man of the hour. Another discussion will be led by Joe Heath who produced a movie based on the book, and attendees will get to preview the film. There is no cost to attend any of the events.
