The first of two trips to Roland in the next two weeks for the Greene County High School softball team takes place tonight. Coach Tom Kennedy’s Rams play Roland-Story, ranked ninth in Class 3A, in a Heart of Iowa Activities Conference contest. The Rams go back to Roland on July 3 to face R-S in the opening round of Class 3A Region 3 tournament play.

Greene County is 4-13 overall and 3-5 in conference action and may have played some of its best softball of the season on June 4 when the Rams hosted the Norsemen. R-S won 5-3, but they had not allowed a run in their first five games of the season before Greene County put three on the board in game six. The contest was closer than the records may have indicated, and Greene County will be trying to complete the upset tonight. R-S is 15-2 overall and 9-0 in HOIAC games. They won eight straight to start the season, lost two in a row, and are currently riding a seven game winning streak. The Norsemen have shut out 10 of their 17 opponents.
