Perry Police Memorial

A career in law enforcement is often a thankless job, but the citizens of Perry are working on a project to express their gratitude for the work the Perry Police Department does.

The Crimestoppers organization is heading up the project, which involves erecting a memorial to fallen law enforcement officers just outside of the police station. The monument will include: a large rock with a message of thanks affixed to it; a series of statues including a police officer, small child, and K-9 unit; a flag pole with the “thin blue line” flag; and other landscaping. Organizer Carolyn McNeill tells Raccoon Valley Radio that they hope to have the rock picked out and in place some time in the coming months.

However, before they can do too much with creating the memorial, McNeill says they have a lot of fundraising work to take care of. To that end, the Crimestoppers are encouraging Perry citizens and others in the area to donate to the project. Anyone interested in contributing can reach out to McNeill by phone at 515-465-2193. You can also send donations to her at 924 Park Street, Perry, IA 50220.
