The Greene County Board of Supervisors met briefly Monday.
During open forum, the Board discussed their decision that they previously made about not allowing alcohol permits outside of any city limits in the county for when the Register’s Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) comes through on July 23rd and 24th. The Board was addressed by Iowa Craft Beer Tent and Back Pocket Brewery Representative Steve Linn last week about the Board’s denial of Back Pocket Brewery’s permit application. Following Monday’s discussion, the Board decided to continue their stance against allowing alcohol sales outside of city limits. Board Chair John Muir explained why they chose not to reconsider the application.
“Well we didn’t want to reverse what we originally decided. But we made that decision based on the logistics of law enforcement being spread throughout the county. We didn’t think we could pick and choose who we issued a license to and who we didn’t, (but) I know we could. We didn’t want to do that, we didn’t think that would be fair to everybody. So we just decided at this point that we would stick with our original decision.”
Muir also noted that the brewery can appeal their decision to the state, who can make the final decision.
