The Adair Fire and Rescue team is looking towards the future with the construction of a new station set to begin in August. The current station consists of two buildings, with the south being far beyond repair and the north unit being auctioned off this weekend.
Adair Community Fire Board President Steve Bireline tells Raccoon Valley Radio the current station barely held the team’s trucks and equipment and that it was clearly time for a new building. The new structure will be 70 feet long, 120 feet wide, and 20 feet tall. Bireline estimates the new station will be twice the size of the existing structure.
Bireline talks about how this project fits into the team’s future goals. “So right now the goal with the fire department members and the fire board is to get this new building up, and then hopefully down the road, fundraising goes well. Maybe five to ten years down the road then we’ll probably start looking at some bigger equipment to put into this building.”
Bireline stresses the fire and rescue team is always looking for volunteers to help the community. For more information on the new station project, or on the auction for the north portion of the old building, listen to Bireline on today’s Let’s Talk Guthrie County program.
