Justin LopezA Jefferson man was recently sentenced after pleading guilty to a lesser charge for a December incident.

According to court documents, 20-year-old Justin Ray Lopez pled guilty to a serious misdemeanor for possession of marijuana. He had all but six days of his 30-day jail sentence suspended and was placed on unsupervised probation with the Greene County Sheriff’s office for one year.

The sentence stems from an incident on December 29, 2017. Police officers executed a search warrant in the 200 block of North Oak Street in Jefferson. Drug related items were seized and sent in for testing at the Criminalistic Laboratory in Ankeny. Lopez and another suspect, Jesus Zuniga, were involved in a traffic stop later that same day and were arrested.

Court documents show that Lopez was originally charged with a felony for possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, but the charge was changed to the serious misdemeanor. He was also ordered to pay over $1,000 in fines, court costs, court-appointed attorney fees and other surcharges.
