The Boys and Girls Club of Central-Southwest Iowa has kicked off their summer with plenty of activities for area youth. However, they will be hosting an event for adults to help support the club. Their Slow Pitch Softball Tournament to raise funds for the club will be on Saturday at Adair Park.
The tournament starts at noon and there are different variations based on the number of teams assembled. The entry fee is $100 per team and all players must be at least 18-years old. The maximum number for a team is ten and there can be no more than seven men.
Executive Director Lynn Hansen talks about the club’s reasoning behind setting the structure of teams for the tournament. “We did it a little bit differently. Just being in such a rural community, sometimes it’s hard to find your traditional ‘five males/five females’ for a team. So we wanted to be able to get as many teams as we possibly could. So if teams want to they can sign up with just seven males and have no females on the team, but you can have a team of ten females if you want to.”
Hansen mentions it’s been a long time since a slow pitch tournament or league has been a part of the Adair community, and they’re hoping this will help bring that back. To hear more about the tournament and the club, listen to Hansen on today’s Let’s Talk Guthrie County program.
