A Panora man was arrested Wednesday afternoon by Jasper County Sheriff’s Deputies after he reportedly robbed a bank in Sully.
At around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, the Great Western Bank in Sully reported that 62-year-old Jeffery Peer presented a note indicating that he had a weapon and was demanding money. The employees gave him an undisclosed amount of money, and he left the bank. When deputies arrived, they gathered information from employees and other witnesses, and were able to identify Peer as the suspect. The Sheriff’s Office broadcasted the information to other area law enforcement agencies, including a description of the vehicle being used.
Just after 1 p.m., an Iowa Department of Motor Vehicle Enforcement Officer spotted the vehicle travelling westbound on Interstate 80 near Colfax. The officer initiated a traffic stop and positively identified Peer, and he was arrested and charged with second degree robbery, a class C felony. He is currently being held in the Jasper County Jail. The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Iowa DMV Enforcement, the Iowa State Patrol, and the Poweshiek County Sheriff’s Office.
