A special fundraiser is being held tomorrow in Jefferson to help children with chemotherapy treatments.

The “Show for the Gold” is a fundraiser that’s inspired and in honor of four-year-old Avril Shahan. Her mother Tabatha says Avril has leukemia and has been receiving chemotherapy treatments at Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines. Tabatha says Avril hates having to take her shirt off for her treatments and wanted a way to provide specially made shirts to give to other children going through their cancer treatments to not have to take their shirts off.

So the fundraiser on Saturday at the Greene County Fairgrounds is to raise $12,000 to purchase 600 “chemo shirts” to give to the children at Blank. The event is a sheep and goat show, with a free-will donation meal and silent auction. The day starts with registrations at 10am to check in the livestock, with a $20 entry fee per head. The sheep show will then begin at noon with the goat show to follow around 1:30pm. Awards will be provided to the winners in several livestock categories. It is a Heartland Youth Show Lamb Circuit sanctioned event.

A barbecue lunch will be served for a free-will donation and the silent auction will take place from 10am to 2pm. Tabatha says you don’t have to be present to win a silent auction item. Some of the auction items include: livestock products, football tickets and an autograph photo of Chicago Cubs, Anthony Rizzo.

No pre-registration is necessary for tomorrow’s event.
