Thursday was Flag Day and the Jefferson Elks Lodge gave a presentation at Regency Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Elks members Les Fister and Cliff Said talked about the history of the American flag and what their organization does with the flag at their events and activities. They also talked about what each fold represented of the 13-folds a US flag goes through during a military funeral. Fister told Raccoon Valley Radio why he continues to give their annual presentation of the nation’s flag on Flag Day.
“I served in the service as did Cliff Said who is helping me. We’re very proud of our service and we’re very proud of our flag. And we believe that these people (at Regency Park) do enjoy having us down. It’s a little bit of entertainment for them and it gives a sense of ‘We’re doing something good for the people.’”
During the ceremony, military veterans in the audience were recognized and June 14th was also the date that the United States Army was created.
