A long time staple of downtown Perry will not be reopening its doors, as Bacon Jewelers recently announced it has closed the location its called home for 58 years.
The jewelry store was one of three businesses affected by an early morning fire on March 21st, and had been closed since due to smoke damage. The community had been wondering if and when the store would reopen, and their answer came last week via a note posted to the front door. In the message, owner Eddie Bacon apologized to his customers and thanked them for their patronage. The note also reminded people that Bacon Jewelers’ Boone location is still open. The Bacon family is unsure what will become of their 2nd Street building, a location they’ve occupied since 1960.
The other two businesses affected by the fire, Perry Floral and Gifts and Ben’s Five and Dime, have also been closed since March 21st. However, neither business has informed the public of any recent developments in their road to reopening. The cause of the fire is still unknown. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes available.
