acgcThe ACGC softball team returned to 500 on the season after a thrilling victory over the Woodward-Granger Hawks in Guthrie Center on Tuesday. Unfortunately for the Chargers that magic didn’t carry over to Earlham on Thursday as they dropped both games to the Cardinals. Earlham defeated ACGC 13-0 and 12-0 in four innings each.

With the two victories the Earlham softball team has shut out their last four opponents. Senior shortstop Taylor Hipsley led the Cardinals, going 3-3 with two runs scored. Junior Lizzy Arnburg and freshmen Alli Boyle and Emma Jensen also scored two runs for the gals in red, white, and blue. Senior Kelsey Tibbs gave up just three hits and struck out three in four innings of work.

Game two also saw multiple-hit performances from Boyle and junior Grace Voss. They both scored two runs each, along with Arnburg and eighth grader Allison Beatty. Freshman Madeline Janssen struck out eight Charger batters and was just one hit away from her second perfect game of the season.

The Chargers fall to 4-6 on the season and 3-5 in the West Central Activities Conference. They will try to inch back towards 500 with a match today against the 4-4 Exira EHK Spartans. First pitch is set for approximately 12:30pm from Guthrie Center.
