Dallas County Conservation is once again offering the popular Food Preservation 101 class this Sunday, which makes its way around the area each year.

The event will be held at Forest Park Museum, and Curator Pete Malmberg says it will be simultaneously fun and informative. “Now some years our food programs have been well attended, some years they haven’t. I would urge folks to start coming to some more of these, because you can save a lot of money with some of these programs. Our food expert, Mary Krisco, is fantastic, teaches a very good class. And a lot of people struggle when there’s only a couple of them at their house (on) how to prepare a meal early in the week (and) keep it for the whole week, what are you going to do with your excess garden produce, those types of issues.”

Some things to be covered in the class include proper canning, dehydrating, and freezing techniques. Attendees will also go home with several recipes and “how-to” instructions. Food Preservation 101 costs $2 to attend, and registration is required. For more information or to register, call Forest Park at 515-465-3577.
