Everyone is encouraged to participate in tomorrow’s fundraising event to build the new Greene County animal shelter.

Animal Shelter Facilitator Don Orris says there is going to be a “Strut Your Mutt” where individuals can walk or run with their canines during the Jefferson Parks and Recreation Department’s Ding Dong Dash. Orris notes that dogs and their owners will go on the one-mile route out to the fairgrounds and back to the Greene County Community Center. Cost to participate is $25 per person, with all the funds to be donated to helping to build the $1.2 million facility. Plus, dogs will also receive a scarf and dog treats. Orris points out the urgency to cover the construction price to build the new facility, all through donations.

“This is a lot of money to raise. We’re a county of only less than 10,000 people. We also need people from outside of the county to help us. It’s a big hill to climb, we hope we can get it climbed and we’re really anxious to get after it.”

Orris adds that people can register tomorrow morning at the community center starting at 7am, with the race to begin at 8am.
