Tomorrow voters will head out to the polls for the primary election to select nominees for this year’s general election in November. With that in mind, we have one last local candidate to introduce you to from Dallas County.
Ryan Morrison of Urbandale is one of two Democratic candidates seeking the nomination for the District 1 seat on the Dallas County Board of Supervisors. While he’s never served as an elected official before, Morrison says he’s been involved in politics for many years. Upon moving to Dallas County, he began attending Supervisors meetings, and it was there he decided to seek one of the seats. “I didn’t go with the intention to make a run for the Board of Supervisors. I just saw a lot of dysfunction in the committee, a lot of indecision, (and) a lot of inaction. And so I just felt the community needs better, the community deserves better. And so after talking to my family, I decided that it was probably a good move to get involved and make that step.”
One thing Morrison would like to see if elected is a more diverse Board that reflects the County and how quickly it’s growing. To accomplish that, he would like to see the Board grow from three to five members, a sentiment shared by many candidates. If Morrison earns the nomination in tomorrow’s election, he will then face incumbent Republican District 1 Supervisor Brad Golightly, who is running unopposed.
