It’s June and that means the start of the Greene County Farmers Market.

The local farmers market kicks off tomorrow on the east side of the Greene County Courthouse. Each farmers market will be held on Tuesdays from 4 to 6:30pm from June 5th through September 25th. Local food vendors will be selling produce, protein, baked goods and more. Co-organizer Chris Henning says there will also be organizations serving fundraiser meals, along with musical entertainment.

She points out that the Mahanay Memorial Carillon Tower will also be open for patrons to use, with free youth admission to the tower. She talks about a special promotion just for June.

“We’re hoping that we can get as many adults as possible, who have not been up to the the Mahanay Tower. So we’re going to have a sign up and we’re going to take the first ten people who sign up and send them up on our dime each week. We’ll see how that goes and maybe the funding will last long enough that we can do it more than June.”

Henning notes that they also have a new on-site Manager in Haley Diem from Auburn, Iowa who is joining them this year. She adds that local vendors can participate anytime during the farmers market season. Vendor fees are $20 per week or $120 for the entire season.
