The annual Perry Fourth of July Fireworks Fundraiser is in full swing, and the next opportunity for the public to donate to the festivities will be tomorrow at Hy-Vee.

The event is being called the “Red, White, and Blue All-American Cookout,” and Hy-Vee Store Manager Matt Rohe says the idea and name for the fundraising event came from Shawn Kenney and John McGee of Raccoon Valley Radio. Rohe says it’s been a good partnership between his store and the radio station, as he’s wanted to try something different from previous years. “In years past, we had done the morning breakfast drive, where Hy-Vee gave out free coffee for a free-will donation. Well this year, we’re trying to change it up, also trying to raise more funds. So on the Friday before Memorial Day, from 4-6 (p.m.) the Big Red Radio will be out at my parking lot, and we will be giving a hot dog, chips, and a drink for a $5 donation towards the fireworks drive.”

The All-American Cookout will be running in conjunction with the Fireworks Round-Up Fundraiser, which will continue through Memorial Day at both Hy-Vee and Fareway. The two grocery stores are entrenched in a friendly battle to see who can raise the most for the annual Fourth of July Fireworks Display.
